Letter from the Vice-President of Student Affairs and Head of EDI

Dear students,

Welcome to the University of the Pacific! We are delighted that you are joining our family at the University of the Pacific. As you begin your educational journey this academic year 2021-2022, you embark on an exciting path, full of learning, promise and hope. The Office of Student Affairs and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion is committed to working with you on this adventure. Our goal is to instill in you a sense of belonging. At Student Affairs, it is our duty to help you take full advantage of the opportunities that you will find at this great university, not only within the walls of our classrooms, but on all of our campuses, and it is a duty that we take seriously.

We are constantly striving to meet the needs of all of our students, students and graduates. The University of the Pacific has exemplary faculty and staff who are here to support you. Our campuses in Forest Grove, Hillsboro, Eugene and Woodburn are designed to create an atmosphere conducive to the achievement of academic goals. As a University of the Pacific student, you will have access and opportunities for leadership development, academic support, networking, community service, and personal growth. We encourage you to participate in the many additional programs that we offer. Many of our campus leaders are involved in student government, Greek life, student counseling, veteran services, programming with one of our many centers such as the Student Multicultural Center or the Center for gender equality, or compete as a student-athlete.

While we hope your time at Pacific University is a memorable and positive one, we also recognize that some students may find it difficult to adjust to campus life, academically or personally. If you find yourself or someone you care about in trouble, I encourage you to contact one of our many support systems. Please visit our Student Support page for information on connecting with the Student Advice Center, Accessibility and Accommodation Office, and many other student support services. Additionally, you can visit our Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion page to learn more about the Pacific’s efforts for social justice.

Your time at Pacific will pass faster than you imagine. I encourage you to take the time to get to know your faculty, staff and peers. I encourage you to ask questions, to learn all you can about Pacific and what we can offer you. Most of all, I expect you to study hard, meet new friends, get involved, and most importantly, have fun. We are here to support you in any way we can. Go boxers!

See you soon on campus,

Narce rodriguez
Vice-President of Student Affairs and Head of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
