Summary of position and main responsibilities

Reporting to the Dean and working closely with the Associate Deans of the School of Arts and Sciences, the Senior Director will lead and coordinate the activities of the Student Life (SL) team at the Naryn and Khorog campuses.

  • The Senior Director of Student Affairs will be responsible for the provision of student services at UCA and will oversee the student life cycle on campus, including counseling and support, organizing extra-curricular activities and necessities of residential life.
  • The Senior Manager will be responsible for i) developing and overseeing extracurricular programs that enable students to realize their full social and personal potential, ii) helping students become respectful of diverse cultures and the people with whom they interact, and iii) integrating student life experiences. with the educational mission of the UCA
  • UCA is seeking an individual who will enthusiastically partner with faculty and staff colleagues to further enrich the connections between teaching and learning programs and residential life.

The Senior Director of Student Affairs is expected to contribute to creating a dynamic and engaging environment that is inclusive, respectful and safe for the entire campus community.

Main tasks and responsibilities

Student activities:

  • Oversee the management of student activities and engagement programs, including advising student governing bodies, activities and clubs, overseeing the allocation of funds to student governing bodies, university clubs and organizations, and athletic programs academics.

Residential Life:

  • Oversee the management of all Residence Life functions, needs, and engagement programs, including managing resources, organizing events, and hiring, training, and supervising Student Life Advisors

Stakeholder involvement:

  • Work with student affairs staff, student groups, faculty members, and other members of campus communities to develop extracurricular programs that ensure integration into the academic life of the institution and encourage growth and the professional, social and personal development of students.
  • Collaborate with faculty and administrative staff to achieve key student learning outcomes regarding life skills development, understanding of democracy and civic engagement, and leadership training
  • Coordinate with campus constituencies and community leaders in the development and management of extracurricular learning and service opportunities
  • Coordinate the activities of the annual parents’ weekend
  • Coordinate the organization of large-scale student events, including the annual bell ceremony and graduation

Code of Conduct:

  • Implement and promote the UCA Code of Conduct
  • Assist in resolving student and parent disputes and complaints
  • Work closely with the campus management team and security to resolve student issues
  • Support the establishment and administration of University policies and regulations as they relate to students, including internal normative and disciplinary procedures
  • Play a role in the campus student ombudsman


  • Work closely with health service representatives in planning, directing and coordinating medical and health services for students

Qualifications and experience required

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required. A highly desired master’s degree in student affairs administration, counseling, or related field
  • Substantial experience of at least 5 years in university administration, business/student life, counseling, college teaching, or related fields is required
  • Management experience of at least 3 years, preferably in an academic and multicultural environment in a similar role
  • International experience with academic institutions
  • A solid record of achievement in areas such as conflict resolution, residential and housing services, and after-school programs
  • In-depth knowledge of the challenges and opportunities of a private residential university
  • A demonstrated commitment to serving students with diverse backgrounds, interests, goals, and abilities
  • Excellent communication skills

  • Solid experience in project management
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • A consultative and collegial style and the ability to inspire confidence in others
  • An ability to be mobile between campuses, CAD and other locations as needed

The position will be based in Naryn, Kyrgyzstan and will require regional travel.
