Vice President of Student Affairs will be a strong advocate for students – Northern Star

FromKALB — NIU has chosen its next Vice President for Student Affairs: Clint-Michael Reneau.

Reneau is a consultant for the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU). He has four years of experience, from July 2017 to July 2021, as Vice President of Student Affairs at California State University, Fullerton. In this role, he focuses on diversity, equity and inclusion as well as leadership effectiveness, according to the North Star.

“He has a lot of experience with diversity, equity and inclusion; he is a leader in this field,” said NIU Executive Vice President and Vice President Beth Ingram. “(Reneau) is strongly committed to ensuring that every student is respected, valued and supported on campus.”

Reneau earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and a Master of Education in Guidance and Counseling with a major in Student Affairs from Texas State University. In 2016, he obtained a doctorate in adult, professional and community education.

“I think (Reneau will be) someone who is committed to ensuring that students have the experience that supports their personal and academic goals, he is a good listener, will be collaborative and really out there. listen to students, but also be a strong advocate for students on campus and for thinking about the NIU experience from a student perspective,” Ingram said.

Reneau has received more than 20 awards and honors, including the American College Personnel Association Men and Masculinities Coalition: Tracy L. Davis Outstanding Emerging Research Award in 2020.

Reneau will take over as vice president of student affairs at NIU beginning June 16.

“When he was interviewed on campus, everyone was very excited about his approach to the position, his commitment to students, his understanding of how student affairs and the student experience fit into success of our students and we were really very grateful to find a candidate. whose personal values ​​align so well with the values ​​of NIU,” Ingram said.
